Protection level

The degree of protection against solid objects and liquids is an important factor when choosing a housing
The protection ratings of electrical equipment housings are defined by a French standard released in June 2000:

NF-EN 60529

The higher the rating, the better the seal. Note however, that cabinets installed outdoors are influenced by the climate and as such subject to temperature fluctuations.

A hermetically-sealed housing installed outdoors in a location subject to significant temperature fluctuations must be ventilated very frequently, causing it to lose 1 or 2 points on the protection rating scale.
